Check your credit once a year and examine it thoroughly. This will reveal any accounts that have been opened without your knowledge. The FACT (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act) was signed into law in December 2003, and became effective in June 2005 in the state of Florida. The act allows consumers to get one free comprehensive disclosure of all the information in their credit file from each of the three national credit reporting companies once every 12 months thorugh a central source.
