Energy Efficient Tips
- Turn off the water when brushing your teeth or shaving and save four gallons a minute. That's as much as 200 gallons a week for a family of four!
- When washing your car, use a hose nozzle and save up to 100 gallons each washing. Try to wash your car on the lawn, so any excess water goes into the lawn.
- About 80% to 85% of the energy used for washing clothes is for heating the water. There are two ways to reduce the amount of energy used for washing clothes - use less water and use cooler water. Your clothes will be just as clean by using warm instead of hot water and you'll save money bot not heating the water. Costs are 26 cents per load using hot water and 11 cents per load using warm water.
- About every six months take the lint screen out of your dryer and wash it. It will save you money from the build up of film from using dryer sheets and could also save you the cost of a new dryer, from burning up the motor on your dryer.
- Use ceiling fans whenever possible. Set your thermostat at 78 degrees. For each degree you lower the temperate from the recommended setting, you increase your bill up to 4%.
- Check your air conditioner's filter once a month and change if necessary. This will save you money by using less energy.
By using the above tips, you can now take yourself or your family out to dinner a couple extra times!
